Long-Term Paint Protection

What a ceramic coating actually does

A ceramic coating is a liquid that bonds chemically with your vehicle’s clear coat and cures into a thin, durable, glass-like layer. Once it sets, it becomes a semi-permanent shield that stays put far longer than a traditional wax or sealant. We’re talking protection that lasts far longer than a traditional wax or sealant offers. That layer is strongly hydrophobic, so water beads up and sheets off instead of clinging to the paint, taking a lot of dirt and grime with it.

The result you can see and feel: a deep, mirror-like gloss, paint that stays cleaner between washes, and a surface that’s noticeably easier to clean. A good coating also adds a layer of defense against UV fade, bird droppings, tree sap, brake dust, and road contaminants that would otherwise etch into unprotected paint over time. It’s one of the best ways to keep a vehicle looking new and to protect its resale value.

Why ceramic coating has to be done right

Here’s the part the DIY kits and quick, cheap jobs don’t tell you: roughly 90% of a ceramic coating result is in the prep, not the coating itself. The paint has to be thoroughly washed, clay-bar decontaminated, paint-corrected as needed, and wiped down with a panel prep solution before a single drop of coating goes on. A coating is long-lasting and hard to undo once cured: it locks in whatever is underneath it. If swirls, water spots, or embedded contaminants are still in the paint, you seal those flaws in for the life of the coating.

Application matters just as much. Coating that’s applied too thick, left too long, or not leveled correctly leaves behind high spots and streaking that can be very difficult to remove once cured. This is exactly why you want a trained, IDA-Certified detailer. Owner and lead detailer Derek Petrucci brings 200+ hours of hands-on professional training and a real commitment to continuing education, so the prep is done properly and the coating is applied the way it’s meant to be, the first time.

  • Helps protect your paint, and your resale value

How we do it at OG Detailing

Every coating starts with prep and ends with a proper cure. The general process looks like this:

  • Thorough wash: a deep cleaning to remove loose dirt and road film
  • Decontamination: clay bar and iron/fallout removal to strip embedded contaminants from the clear coat
  • Paint correction as needed: polishing to reduce swirls and imperfections so the coating sits over clean, corrected paint
  • Panel wipe: a final prep solution so the coating bonds properly
  • Coating application: applied and leveled panel by panel by a trained detailer
  • Cure: the coating is given time to set so it can do its job for the long haul

Because the right package depends on your vehicle’s condition and the level of correction it needs, our pricing is “starting at.” Take a look at our full services and pricing, or give us a call and we’ll walk you through a quote for your specific vehicle.

Built for Northern Illinois winters

If you drive in the Northwest Suburbs, you already know what our winters do to a vehicle: months of road salt and brine coating everything from the wheels to the rocker panels. That salt is corrosive and it loves to bake onto unprotected paint. A ceramic coating gives the salt and winter grime far less to grab onto, so a maintenance rinse clears it off much more easily. That means less corrosive buildup sitting on your paint all season and better protection for your vehicle’s long-term value.

We’re proud to serve Huntley and Sun City / Del Webb Huntley, along with the surrounding Northwest Suburbs and Northern Illinois: Lake in the Hills, Algonquin, Crystal Lake, Gilberts, Hampshire, Elgin, McHenry, Woodstock, Cary, and the rest of McHenry and Kane County. We offer mobile options as well as drop-off and pickup within Huntley to make it easy.

Is a ceramic coating right for you?

A coating is a great fit if you plan to keep your vehicle a while, want to cut down on washing effort, or simply want to keep a newer car looking its best. New vehicles are an ideal candidate (protecting paint that’s already in great shape), but well-maintained older vehicles can look fantastic after correction and coating too.

A ceramic coating isn’t “set it and forget it,” though. It performs best with proper upkeep using the right products and technique. That’s why we offer a Ceramic Maintenance Wash, a coating-safe wash that keeps the hydrophobic properties and gloss working the way they should, season after season.
